Glossary
We're covering a lot of terms in the workshop and you may need a reference to return to later. This glossary should help. Definitions that are from Wikipedia include links to the full articles on those topics.
- Blog - "Easily created, easily updated Websites that allow an author (or authors) to publish instantly to the Internet from any Internet connection. They can also be interactive, allowing teachings and students to begin conversations or add to the information published there." (Richardson, 2006)
- Feed - "Data format used for serving users frequently updated content. Content distributors syndicate a web feed, thereby allowing users to subscribe to it. Making a collection of web feeds accessible in one spot is known as aggregation, which is performed by an Internet aggregator." (Wikipedia)
- Podcast - "Podcasting, a portmanteau of Apple's iPod" and "broadcasting", is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost. It first became popular in late 2004, used largely for audio files." (Wikipedia)
- RSS -Real Simple Syndication. "a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts." (Wikipedia)
- RSS Reader- Desktop or Web-based application where you can keep subscriptions and read your RSS feeds from blogs, podcasts and other sites with feeds.
- Screencast - "a digital recording of computer screen output, also known as a video screen capture, often containing audio narration." (Wikipedia)
- Social Bookmarking - a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata. (Wikipedia)
- Wiki - "Software that allows users to create, edit, and link web pages easily. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites." (Wikipedia)
